Summer Camp

Hello everyone!!

I hope you've all been well.

I'm alright, except for the summer heat........you know what I mean, eh!!

Anyways.....yesterday, we got back from an overnight summer camping trip. This year we camped at a site in Aichi prefecture. It was truly great and I was quite happy to see the children enjoy themselves very much during the two days.

There were games as well as English lessons on the bus. We cooked curry and rice over an open fire. We had a campfire. We slept in tents. We rode on a choo choo train. I especially enjyed riding the choo choo train. It was a first for me and it felt like I was transported way back through time. I'd like to ride that same choo choo train again someday soon.

Well, I hope you enjoy what's left of the summer season. I'm already looking forward to autumn and what the harvest will bring.

We'll hook up again later, alright.

Byes for now - Peni

Hello Everyone!

Hello everyone! My name is Lydia Dieterich and I am a new teacher here at GES. I was born in Winona, Minnesota - but I was grew up around Seattle, Washington. (Go Mariners!) I graduated from Washington State University with two degrees in Fine Arts and Anthropology. This is my first time in Japan, and I have only been here a little under one month, but I am really enjoying Japan so far. I can't wait to see more of Japan, and I am looking forward to learning as much as I can about the culture here. I plan on learning Japanese very soon as well! Everyone at GES and all of the students are all very wonderful and I can't wait for all the fun and exciting times we will have this year.

Come say hello anytime!
Lydia

PLS convention

Last weekend the GES staff went to Tsu for a PLS convention. The teachers got a fresh outlook on what`s to come for all our PLS students. PLS Headquarters in Tokyo is always working to improve the lessons, games and rank requirements. The Japanese staff and the foreign teachers got the chance to watch some experienced teachers demonstrate their 9th and 7th rank classes. The English teachers always enjoy watching another teacher with their class because it gives us a chance to see the same material in a different light. Now, I can give a variety of games and challenges to the kids and continue to improve as an English teacher!

It's a New Year at GES

Hello! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year's Day! I was lucky enough to get to go to France with my family for the holidays. My younger sister studied at university in Montpellier, France for six months last semester, and so my family went to the neighboring city of Arles to visit her and to tour southern France. My parents, other sister, and brother came to France from Baltimore, Maryland, USA, as did three of my cousins, and my aunt and uncle and their two young daughters came from Zurich, Switzerland, where they have been living for the last five years. I feel lucky to have such an international family! In all, thirteen of us met in France and stayed in Arles for over a week. It was a wonderful experience, and it was great to celebrate the holidays with so many family members. If you see me, I'd love to hear about how you spent your holidays! I hope everyone is starting the new year off well and will continue to have a very successful year. I resolved to travel as much as possible during this next year, and so I am going to South Korea to visit a friend in February. If you have any recommendations for sights to see or things to do in Korea, please let me know!
