フィジーでは、11月はいつもエキサイティングな月です。

ディワリ祭、またはヒンドゥー教の光の祭典があります。今年のディワリは主に11月13日に祝われ、その1週間前にはお祭りが行われます。このお祭りはディーパワリ、ディーパバリ、ディパバリ、デワリとも呼ばれています。

このお祭りは、ヒンドゥー教のラーマ神を称えるために行われるお祭りで、ラーマ神はヴィシュヌ神の7番目のアヴァター（化身）です。お祭りの期間中、フィジー全土のヒンドゥー教徒、そして世界中の何百万人ものヒンドゥー教徒が、ラーマ神の悪に対する勝利（闇に対する光）を祝うため、家々を色とりどりのライトやろうそくで照らします。また、贈り物の交換、花火、特別なディワリの食事も行われます。

ヒンズー教徒だけでなく、多くの人がこの祭りの間、仕事中でも特別な服装に身を包みます。
フィジーでは、ヒンドゥー教徒の隣人からディワリのお菓子や香の物をもらうのをいつも楽しみにしていました。

ディワリは、フィジーのみんなに大きな幸せをもたらす時でもあります。

November in Fiji

In Fiji, November is always an exciting month.

There is the Diwali festival or the Hindu festival of lights.

This year Diwali will be celebrated mainly on the 13th of November, with a week prior of festivities.The festival is also known as Deepawali, Deepavali, Dipavali, or Dewali.

It a festival that is held to honor the Hindu Lord Rama, who is the seventh avatar (incarnation of the God Vishnu). During the festive period, Hindus all over Fiji, and millions of Hindus around the world, light up their houses with many colourful lights and candles to celebrate his victory over evil (light over darkness).

There are also exchanges of gifts, fireworks, and special Diwali meals. Many people, not only Hindus, dress up in special clothes during the festival, even at work.

In Fiji, I always looked forward to receiving Diwali sweets and savouries from our Hindu neighbors. Diwali is also a time that brings about great happiness to everyone in Fiji.
