皆さん、メリークリスマス。

フィジーのクリスマスはどんな感じでしょうか？

昨日（クリスマス・イブ）は教会の礼拝に出席し、多くの信徒とクリスマスの挨拶を交わしました。今日は、早朝6時からのクリスマス礼拝に出席しました。

その後、コーヒー、スクランブルエッグ、トーストの朝食とクリスマスケーキを食べました。これはフィジーの多くの人々にとって普通のことで、クリスマス・ランチはその日のメインの食事です。

今年の昼食は、海の近くにテントを張り、”Lovo “と呼ばれる伝統的な地下の “アース “オーブンで調理した料理が中心でした。フィジーや近隣のポリネシア諸国では、クリスマスなどの特別な日に “Lovo “を食べるのが一般的です。準備の後、近所の親戚が焼いてくれたケーキやパイを食べながら、クリスマスの朝のお茶をしました。

フィジーのクリスマスは、家族や親戚と分かち合い、一緒に過ごす時間です。

Merry Christmas, everyone.

What is Christmas like in Fiji?

Yesterday (Christmas Eve), I attended a church service and exchanged Christmas greetings with many members of the congregation. Today, I attended the early morning Christmas Day service at 6am. After that, I had a somewhat usual breakfast of coffee, scrambled eggs, and toast, and a small slice of Christmas cake. This was followed by preparations for a Christmas lunch with relatives ~ this is usual for many people in Fiji and Christmas lunch is the main meal of the day. This year, we decided to have lunch under a marquee pitched near the sea, and lunch will consist mainly of food cooked in a traditional underground “earth” oven called “Lovo.” It is common for people in Fiji and in neighboring Polynesian countries to have “Lovo” for special occasions such as Christmas. After some preparation, we also had a Christmas morning tea, with cakes and pies baked by some of our neighboring relatives.

Christmas in Fiji, really is a time of sharing and being with family as well as relatives.
