近代的な家もフィジーの伝統的な住居も、クリスマスのイルミネーションやオーナメントで内外ともに美しく飾られます。

クリスマス・イブの夜には、多くの人が教会の礼拝に出席し、その後、家族や友人と一緒にカナヴァタと呼ばれる共同ディナーを楽しむことが多いです。

クリスマス当日は早くからクリスマス・ランチの準備に取りかかる。料理は熱した石の上で蒸し焼きにされ、おいしくて独特の風味が生まれます。料理には豚肉、鶏肉、根菜類、葉物野菜がよく使われ、その多くはココナッツミルクと一緒に調理されます。

近所の人たちと料理を分かち合うのは一般的な習慣で、クリスマスの教会礼拝に出席した後、人々が集まって共同体として昼食を楽しむことが多いです。

フィジーの村でクリスマスを祝った経験を、私は本当に大切にしています。

December in Fiji is a lively and delightful time, with Christmas being the main highlight. Celebrating the holiday with family in the village is always a joy and something I eagerly look forward to each year.

Both modern homes and traditional Fijian dwellings are beautifully decorated inside and out, with Christmas lights and ornaments.

On Christmas Eve, many people attend a church service in the evening, which is often followed by a kana vata, a communal dinner with family and friends.

Christmas Day starts early, with preparations for the Christmas lunch, typically featuring a feast cooked in an underground oven known as a lovo. The food is steam-baked on hot stones, creating a delicious and unique flavor. Dishes often include pork, chicken, root vegetables, and leafy greens, many of which are cooked with coconut milk.

Sharing food with neighbors is a common tradition, and after attending the Christmas Day church service, people often come together to enjoy lunch as a community.

I truly cherish the experience of celebrating Christmas in a Fijian village.
